I. GATHERING, CHASING AND TWISTING

 

The start of an ocean race with the yachts jockeying for position, riding the waves and twisting to catch the strongest wind before heading out, at high speed, to sea.

 

II. DRIFTING, FLOATING, WINDLESS The wind has dropped, and the yachts lie becalmed, apart from the occasional squall.

 

III. TACKING, HEELING, FLYING The wind returns, and the racers are now riding along the waves at top speed once again, their bows sometimes crashing through the waves, relentlessly flying towards the finish line.

 

Although conceived as one complete work, the individual movements may be performed as separate concert items
